Artykuł przedstawia analizę historyczno-eklezjologiczną dziejów katolickich Kościołów wschodnich tradycji wschodniosyryjskiej, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem Kościoła syromalabarskiego i Kościoła chaldejskiego. Ukazuje złożony proces dochodzenia tych wspólnot do pełnej komunii ze Stolicą Apostolską, naznaczony schizmami, podziałami oraz prześladowaniami. W centrum rozważań znajduje się napięcie między zachowaniem własnej tożsamości liturgicznej i eklezjalnej a wpływami zewnętrznymi, zwłaszcza procesami latynizacji. Analiza prowadzi do wniosku, że jedność z Rzymem była procesem długotrwałym i dynamicznym, a jej trwałość zależy od poszanowania własnej tradycji oraz właściwie rozumianej inkulturacji.
