Le présent article se propose d’explorer la signification du concept de māqôm en Os 5, 15, en recherchant à situer cette notion à l’intérieur de l’horizon rhétorique dans lequel s’inscrit la sentence d’Osée 5, 15, point culminant de l’oracle dit « de jugement » que l’on trouve en Osée 5, 8–15. Avec cette démarche, il apparaît que, dans Osée 5, 15, le māqôm prend tout son sens à la faveur d’une réflexion critique sur l’institution monarchique en Israël, en regard de ses multiples défaillances devenues potentiellement fatales pour l’identité et même pour l’existence tout court du peuple de l’alliance. Au prisme de cette critique, le māqôm excède la conception spatiale habituelle et fonctionne comme un espace conceptuel, un lieu de mémoire où se ravive l’alliance fondatrice et l’élection divine du peuple. Dès lors, il ne s’agit plus d’un simple lieu, profane, sacré ou métaphorique, mais d’un moment nodal de refondation, où la prise de conscience des valeurs fondamentales de l’alliance rend possible une nouvelle expérience avec Dieu.
