The Passover of Two Kings. A Literary and Comparative Study of the Passover of Kings Josiah and Hezekiah

This article examines the Passover celebrations of Kings Josiah and Hezekiah through a literary and comparative analysis of 2 Kgs 23:21–23 and 2 Chr 30. The study explores the theological and literary function of Passover within the Deuteronomistic and Chronicler traditions, highlighting the relationship between Law, worship, and land. It argues that Josiah’s Passover represents cultic restoration linked to covenant fidelity and purification from idolatry, whereas Hezekiah’s Passover emphasizes communal unity, purification, and liturgical joy. The comparison demonstrates both continuity and the distinct theological perspectives of the two biblical traditions.
